Christmas Lunch at The Alcott
A wonderful turn out of Members and Guests at our 2024 Lane Cove Probus Club Christmas Lunch at The Alcott Club, a terrific local venue that catered to our needs perfectly! The Accordion Duo, ‘The Two Fillies’ provided beautiful Xmas Tunes as pre lunch entertainment. 🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄President Judi presented two generous ‘Lucky Door’ prizes and a fantastic Raffle Prize of $100 Harris Farm Gift Voucher to delighted members! 2nd Prize Chocolates were also well received! 🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄
State Theatre Tour
In November, 19 enthusiastic Probians visited the State Theatre for a highly informative Tour. Our Tour Guide Stuart, a long-time employee was able to impart personal anecdotes of his connection to many of the stars who had performed at ‘The State’. Without a doubt the State Theatre is a unique and magnificent building. The Dress Circle Gallery houses artworks by significant Australian artists including William Dobell, Charles Wheeler, and Raymond Lindsay. We visited the Butterfly Room, Pioneer Room, and marvelled at the ‘Koh-i-Noor’ cut crystal chandelier located in the auditorium that weighs approximately four tonnes and is said to be the second largest in the world. The State Theatre was opened in 1929 and was created as the ‘Palace of Dreams ‘by Architect Henry White who fused elements of Gothic, Italian and Art Deco. The State Theatre has been, and still is, an integral part of the social and cultural fabric of the Sydney landscape. After our tour we walked up to Club York where we enjoyed the Club’s Monday Special just $12.50 The Menu provided us with a variety of foods from which to choose. Another interesting outing for our members.
